Located across from the South Lawn of the White House, the Corcoran Gallery of Art was described by Frank Lloyd Wright as the "best - designed building in Washington, DC."

The collection's paintings and sculpture are the legacy of William Wilson Corcoran (1798-1888), the museum's founder and a leading patron of American art. Together with its noted holdings of 19th-century American prints and drawings, the collection brings us face-to-face with the people, the landscape and the lifestyles of a dramatically different time.

In keeping with its founder's commitment to the art of his day, the Corcoran continues to broaden its collection to include a wide selection of works by contemporary artists. Today, the Corcoran is renowned for its collection of 20th-century painting, sculpture, and photography. In total, the Corcoran's American holdings illuminate the nation's history and artistic development In addition to its permanentfrom colonial times through the 20th century.

In addition to the permanent collection, special exhibits on display during ISBI include "Robert Bechtle: A Retrospective" and "John Singer Sargent: Portraits and Models."

Working in a sun-bleached color palette and photorealist style, painter Robert Bechtle gives us a quiet Americana: street-scapes, family scenes, and portraits of cars. The result is an uncanny reflection of middle-class American culture.

The expatriate American artist John Singer Sargent (1856-1925) was a prolific draftsman throughout his long, industrious career. His drawings encompassed virtually every category of artistic subject matter including allegory, history, and still life, in addition to his renowned portraiture.

ISBI attendees will enjoy drinks and a buffet dinner (in the theme of the Bechtle exhibit), and are invited to explore at their leisure the complete collections of the gallery from 6:45 P.M. to 10:00 P.M.

Transportation will be provided.
