We invite you to register for the 8th International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging (ISBI’11) on March 30 – April 2, 2011, at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place, in Chicago. ISBI is a joint initiative of the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) and the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (www.EMBS.org). The 2011 meeting will continue the tradition of fostering cross-fertilization between different imaging communities and contributing to an integrative imaging approach across all scales of observation. We have organized an exciting program featuring preconference tutorials and short courses, followed by a strong scientific program of plenary talks and special sessions as well as oral and poster presentations of peer-reviewed contributed papers. We have had a record number of paper submissions this year; these high-quality papers contain original contributions to the algorithmic, mathematical and computational aspects of biomedical imaging, as well as emerging methodology and instrumentation, from nano- to macroscale. This year, we anticipate lively interaction between students and industry leaders. Our Lunch with leaders program will afford students the opportunity to exchange ideas with leaders who are making a difference in the field of biomedical imaging. To meet the demands of this ever changing field, we have organized a panel discussion on the future of biomedical imaging. Experts from industry, academia, healthcare, and government funding and research agencies will be represented on the panel, which should provide the most current ‘big-picture’ perspectives on where our field is headed.
As you know, biomedical Imaging is evolving to meet new demands in biology and medicine, including the possibility to localize gene expression, to characterize cell behavior in vivo, to map out the functioning brain, or to provide personalized medicine, point-of-care delivery, and minimally invasive procedures. To address these needs, biomedical imaging methodologies are being challenged to extend resolution and contrast, to increasingly include multiple modalities, operate in various clinical and research settings, and focus on a variety of temporal and spatial scales, from molecular to whole-body imaging, from nano to macro. ISBI 2011 will bring together a diverse set of experts in biomedical imaging to discuss the current state and the future of biomedical medical imaging.
